TruSight, LLC, a private equity data and M&A services company, has been selected to join the Inc. 5000, an elite list of America’s fastest-growing private companies.
This designation by Inc. Magazine demonstrates TruSight's rising influence in the private equity and M&A industry and represents a significant leap forward for the U.S. and Asia-based team.
TruSight’s growth has been driven by innovation in its two lines of business: M&A deal origination services for investors and acquirers, and private equity and transaction-related data solutions for investment bankers, private equity investors, consultants and advisors to M&A, and executive recruiters.
TruSight's journey began in 2008 when Daniel Mahoney joined the M&A advisory firm CMF Associates, which was launching a deal origination team. The opportunity was clear: give investment bankers a wider distribution to new networks of acquirers and provide private equity firms with deal flow they couldn’t otherwise access.
"Our aim from the start was to show more relevant deals to private equity-backed buyers and to expand the distribution channel for sell side investment banks to buyers unknown to their teams,” Mahoney said.
The deal origination team closed its first transaction almost immediately, underscoring the need for a solution that connects the long tail of the lower middle market investment bankers to appropriate buyers. The ability to impress both sides of the transaction – with expertise, industry trends, enhanced data, and curated introductions – would eventually become the signature values of TruSight when it was eventually spun out of CMF, with Mahoney leading the charge as Co-Founder and Managing Director.
TruSight initially offered a contingent fee deal sourcing model introducing private equity firms and family office investors to lower middle market opportunities marketed by smaller investment banks throughout the United States.
Over time, this model was amended as TruSight converted to a providing private equity buyers with a higher touch, curated, and repeatable subscription-based offering with outreach to the harder to reach segments of the investment banker community.
TruSight supplements these efforts with traditional Retained Buy-Side Search origination services that call directly into business owners to originate proprietary deal flow.
In 2021, TruSight amplified its service capabilities with the acquisition of Private Equity Info, a private equity, transaction, and executive data information business.
PEI founder Andy Jones started the database business in 2004 and had courted a growing subscriber base of top investment bankers, private equity firms, M&A industry groups and advisory professionals as long-term clients; these customers sought the platform’s data accuracy, ease-of-use, and personalized customer service.
The acquisition aligned with TruSight's vision to more efficiently leverage M&A networks and drive growth by bundling curated service capabilities to an expansive, accurate data platform.
“Together, we are optimizing the M&A transaction process for our clients, making relevant connections, allowing them to work more efficiently,” Jones said.
Innovation in the development of service offerings to M&A professionals has enhanced the company's reputation using focus, data, and technology to drive value and close transactions. This has resulted in generating an ability to rapidly scale, landing it on the Inc. 5000 list for the first time.
“With AI driving a revolution in how we work, TruSight, with its tech-enabled, data driven solutions is poised for growth and to provide our customers with outstanding and relevant service offerings,” Mahoney said.
